Participating Countries in Patient Enrolment

EAST-STROKE is a collaborative effort and consists of several trials jointly investigating a shared research question. At the heart of this initiative is EAST-STROKE Europe, which will serve as the central and coordinating hub for a network of interconnected trials. These trials will also be conducted in Australia and Canada, where funding has already been approved, as well as in additional countries that are currently at various stages of preparation. By fostering international collaboration, EAST-STROKE aims to generate robust, globally relevant insights that will advance stroke research and improve patient outcomes worldwide.

EAST-STROKE (Early treatment of Atrial fibrillation for Stroke prevention Trial in acute STROKE) ist eine internationale, von Forschern initiierte Studie, in der untersucht wird, ob eine frühzeitige rhythmuserhaltende Therapie im Vergleich zur Standardversorgung unerwünschte kardiovaskuläre Ereignisse bei Patient:innen mit akutem ischämischem Schlaganfall und Vorhofflimmern verhindert.

Patient:innen, die an einem akuten ischämischen Schlaganfall und Vorhofflimmern leiden, haben ein besonders hohes Risiko für wiederkehrende Schlaganfälle und andere schwerwiegende kardiovaskuläre Ereignisse. Ziel der Studie ist es, Evidenz für optimierte Behandlungsstrategien zu liefern, die die Lebensqualität der Patient:innen verbessern und zu einer nachhaltigeren Gesundheitsversorgung beitragen. EAST-STROKE wird in mehreren Ländern – darunter auch Deutschland – durchgeführt und soll die zukünftige klinische Praxis weltweit prägen.

EAST-STROKE (Early treatment of Atrial fibrillation for Stroke prevention Trial in acute STROKE) est un essai clinique international initié par les investigateurs eux-mêmes et cherchant à déterminer si un traitement précoce visant à contrôler le rythme cardiaque, comparé aux soins habituels, permet de prévenir les complications cardiovasculaires chez les patients victimes d’un AVC ischémique aigu et souffrant de fibrillation auriculaire.

Les patients souffrant d’un AVC ischémique aigu et de fibrillation auriculaire présentent un risque particulièrement élevé de récidive d’AVC et d’autres événements cardiovasculaires graves. L’essai vise à générer l’évidence nécessaire pour permettre d’améliorer les stratégies de traitement afin d’améliorer la qualité de vie des patients et de contribuer à des soins de santé plus durables. Mené dans plusieurs pays, dont la Suisse, EAST-STROKE cherche à façonner la pratique clinique future à l’échelle mondiale.

EAST-STROKE (Early treatment of Atrial fibrillation for Stroke prevention Trial in acute STROKE) è uno studio internazionale avviato da ricercatori per verificare se la terapia precoce di controllo del ritmo cardiaco prevenga esiti cardiovascolari avversi nei pazienti con ictus ischemico acuto e fibrillazione atriale rispetto alle cure standard.

I pazienti affetti da ictus ischemico acuto e fibrillazione atriale sono particolarmente a rischio di ictus ricorrenti e altri gravi eventi cardiovascolari. Lo studio mira a fornire prove scientifiche a sostegno di strategie terapeutiche migliorate che aumentino la qualità della vita dei pazienti e contribuiscano a un’assistenza sanitaria più sostenibile. Condotto in diversi paesi, tra cui la Svizzera, EAST-STROKE mira a plasmare la futura pratica clinica a livello mondiale.

About EAST-STROKE

EAST-STROKE (Early treatment of Atrial fibrillation for Stroke prevention Trial in acute STROKE) is an international, investigator-initiated trial that examines whether early rhythm-control therapy, compared with standard care, prevents adverse cardiovascular events in patients with acute ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation.

Patients with acute ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation have a particularly high risk of recurrent strokes and other serious cardiovascular events. The aim of the study is to generate evidence for optimized treatment strategies that improve patients’ quality of life and contribute to a more sustainable healthcare system. EAST-STROKE is being conducted in several countries – including Australia – and aims to shape future clinical practice worldwide.
